The things I have to do…

Here are some pictures of me performing in the staff Christmas show.

More science links

Lily S asked me to post links that would allow you to look at close-up pictures of the Earth and the sun; because I’m such a nice person, I have done just that! See below…

Flash Earth allows you to view satellite photos of the Earth and zoom in and out.

Click on the two images below to see photos of the sun.
Sun one Sun two

As an extra, Google Mars allows you to view close-up photos of Mars. As with Flash Earth, you can zoom in and out.

Google Moon & Astro Adventure

Google Moon

I talked about the ‘Google Moon’ website during today’s science lesson; click here, or on the picture above, to explore this amazing site. What you will see are very close up photos of the moon joined together by the clever people at Google and NASA. Drag the moon’s surface with your mouse and use the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons on the left side of the screen to zoom in and out.

I hope that looking at these pictures will help Freddie understand that the moon is not made out of cheese!

A reminder and a call for help

Chicken

Please remember to bring £1 to school with you on Monday to pay for the poetry workshop day. The workshop sounds brilliant - you are going to be spending the day with Miss Price’s class and both Year Three classes learning, from a professional poet, how to perform poems.

Also, Miss Bartlett needs help naming her three chickens. Please post any suggestions for names as a comment - be as creative as you like. :)

Does your computer screen need a clean?

If it does, click here. :)

Simile poems

Iceberg

Next week in literacy we are going to be reading and writing poems that include similes. A simile is a phrase that compares two things using the words ‘as’ or ‘like’ - I could say that I am as cold as an iceberg, as silly as a clown or that I have teeth like pearls.

Click here to read some simile poems that a Year Five class from Poplar Primary School in London wrote in 2004.

If you would like to, have a go at finishing the sentences below to create your own simile phrases (post them as a comment for a sticker!).

  • I am as chilly as…
  • I have eyes like…
  • I am as upset as…
  • I am strong like a…

Have a brilliant weekend. :)

Google Earth

Google Earth

Today I showed you some of the many uses and features of the superb ‘Google Earth’.

Below is a link to download Google Earth so that you can use it at home if you wish. Before you start the download, however, please check with a parent or carer that they are happy for you to do so.

Click here to be taken to the download page; you will need to click on the ‘Agree and Download’ button when the page loads. When the download finishes double click on the downloaded file to start installing the program. You may want to find someone to help you complete all of these stages.

Have a great evening. :)

A quick reminder

Christmas present

Just a quick reminder: please bring a Christmas present that you would like to show the class with you to school on the first day back. I wouldn’t recommend bringing in anything expensive or electrical; choose something such as a nice book or a soft toy.

Happy 2008! :)
